Your Netflix Holiday Break Checklist
By: Nicole Elliott
Throughout the year, most people become very busy. Between homework, sports, clubs, and just school as a whole there is very little time, if any, to watch your favorite shows. As the holiday break approaches, many will have leftover time to watch the shows we binged on all summer. After taking a poll of 25 Wayne Valley students I came up with your Netflix Holiday Checklist.
❏Grey's Anatomy- Grey’s Anatomy walks through the lives of surgeons, interns, and nurses as they try to manage work and their personal lives. Alive for 12 seasons, it is not surprising that this made number one.
❏American Horror Story- This unique program is a horror series with five seasons, each with a different plot. The seasons include Murder House, Coven, Asylum, Freak Show, and Hotel.
❏Gossip Girl- This six season television series is full of drama. This show takes place on the upper east side of Manhattan. Watching the show, it is learned that everybody has a secret.
❏One Tree Hill- Set in California this show follows two half-brothers, Lucas and Nathan, through their high school years, all the while compete in their school basketball team.
Other shows like Pretty Little Liars, Orange Is the New Black, and Teen Wolf also made an appearance on the poll. Now the question: what show are you going to binge on during the winter break?

'Spectre' Movie Review
By: Aidan Halligan:
Spectre is directed by Sam Mendes, and stars Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, Monica Belluci, Christoph Walts, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Dave Bautista. A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE. (IMDb.com)
Spectre is the second James Bond film in Sam Mendes’ filmography, and it doesn’t disappoint. While it does not even come close to its predecessor, Skyfall, at least it proves to be better than the colossal let-down, Quantum of Solace.
First off, Sam Mendes remains strong with his directorial skills. He provides movie-goers with a vibrant and bright film all throughout, even in the mostly white sections of the snow filled environments that take up a section of the movie. One of the most eye-catching scenes is the opening scene during the Dia de Muertos parade. Comprised mostly of one single shot in the very beginning, it is a treat for the eyes. Also, Spectre broke the world record for “Largest Movie Explosion” which comes in the second act. The fact that they had one shot to complete that and Mendes was able to do it so well astonishes me.
The performances also stand tall throughout the film with Daniel Craig again proving that he is a very good fit for the role as James Bond. Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, and Naomie Harris reprise their roles and are fine in them, but unfortunately do not bring anything special. The same could be said for Monica Belluci’s character, simply because she serves a very small purpose and then is never seen again. However, the same cannot be said for this year’s, “Bond Girl”, but she may even be the first “Bond Woman”. Lea Seydoux gives the first memorable performance in the Bond franchise bringing a strong, sexy, and intelligent performance to the film.
Unfortunately, where the film lacks is in its “James Bond-ness”. To me this didn’t exactly feel like a Bond movie, even though it does connect to the other Bond films. It doesn’t have the dark feel that Casino Royale and Skyfall have, and loses speed every time it focuses on a subplot that is very lackluster and unexciting. Where I feel like this movie failed was Bond’s love interest and the relationship he forms with Lea Seydoux’s character. Casino Royale was able to do it very well between Bond and Vesper Lynd, but fails to re-create that same chemistry between Bond and Swann.
Overall, this does prove to be a fun entry in the Bond franchise, and I cannot wait to see what the last Daniel Craig Bond film will become in regards to its dark and intense feel.
Rating: 4.5/5
